Gerry Best

Gerry Best lives in Lower Largo in a house with a garden leading directly on to the beach – location, location, location!
With such wonderful views, it is no surprise that he loves painting the sea and the beach with its many moods.

Gerry started his painting on retirement from his job as an environmental scientist. Initially he attended evening classes but later went to Anniesland College in Glasgow where he studied for a National Certificate in Art and Design under the tuition of Yvonne Taylor.

He likes new challenges and has been using acrylic paint on wood, slates and roof tiles. As acrylic paint is, essentially, pigment in a glue, he likes to add texture to his work by mixing in sawdust, sand, shredded paper, wool, or anything that will stick on canvas! He has a special fondness for painting Highland cattle with their shaggy coats and huge horns.

Gerry also makes things out of Scottish wood – mirrors, coffee tables, chopping boards and tealight holders. He works with the special features in the wood, the grain, the knots and the bark, to make truly unique items.
