Lorna Groves

After retiring from the oil industry Lorna decided to use her love of fabric to make soft furnishings and gifts made from tweed. She was then asked to upholster her cousin’s boat which inspired her to attend upholstery classes. This became a passion and she has continued with accredited classes for the last two years.

Lorna uses both modern techniques, involving foam and traditional techniques with coir stuffing. “ It is very satisfying to see an old chair given a new life using traditional methods which will see it being used for another 20 years.”

Her creative chairs use photographs taken by either herself or her brother and mainly involve woodlands scenes printed on to upholstery fabric. Her love of trees and walks in the woods are the inspiration for some of these pieces.

Lorna works mainly on commissions but also exhibits at fairs in the East Neuk, Edinburgh and Perth
