Sharon Black

Born near Glasgow and brought up in Fife, Sharon’s passion for art as a child was inspired by a vivid imagination, fueled by a love of reading. This developed into a desire to convey emotion through colour and imagery. The Scottish Colourists and artists who use strong colours are amongst her main influences. Subsequent to school, she gained an MA in English & Film and a MSc in Entrepreneurship, leading to a career in academia. But art was always a passion and often a necessary escape.

Sharon has tried a variety of mediums including collage and photography, always seeking to make an impact on the viewer. This has developed into using various textures either on canvas or paper, including glue, gesso and versatile acrylic mediums. She continues to experiment with different techniques.

Currently she paints striking, predominantly floral abstracts in bold, vibrant, energising colours. She is inspired by nature’s rich colours and shapes which seem almost unnatural, and interprets them in unusual textured acrylics. More recently she has begun to experiment with acrylics and ink.

She regularly exhibits her work during the annual Open Studios North Fife event, and in various venues throughout Fife, and is a past featured artist at Falkland Festival Art Exhibition.
